CALES – first choice for Arabic
By choosing CALES, you choose not only excellent tuition, but also the unparalleled cultural experience that comes from living and working in the midst of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Our teachers average 8 years of experience teaching Arabic as a foreign language and have taught students of widely varying nationalities. All our teachers graduated at the top of their university class and most have Master's degrees in either Arabic or English.
As a division of the University of Science and Technology www.ust.edu. CALES comes under the umbrella of the Union of Arab Universities. Credit from the University of Science and Technology is transferable and accepted by various institutions abroad, although universities outside the Middle East may require pre-consultation. We will assist in this wherever possible. On the satisfactory completion of a course, you will receive certification from the University of Science and Technology, Sana’a.
Our Arabic programmes are open to students of all levels and abilities and we are happy to accommodate any specific linguistic requirements.
By electing to study in Sana’a you will also have the cultural and natural wealth of Yemen on your doorstep. Most students choose to augment their study with cultural trips and the Links give you a flavor of the wonders in store.
Location
CALES is located within the heart of Old Sana’a, a bustling mediaeval, Arab city and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most of our students live within the walls of the Old City, either within CALES or in one of the nearby mud-brick towers, which provides an unparalleled cultural dimension to your study.
Nearby is Souq al-Melh, a warren of ancient streets with everything from traditional smithies to stalls piled high with exotic spices. Bab al-Yemen, the imposing entrance to the Old City and the symbolic gateway into Yemen itself, is less than five minutes walk from CALES.
Two minutes from CALES is The Great Mosque, built in the time of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and renovated later by Queen Arwa. Next door to the mosque is Dar al-Mokhtotat, a museum housing priceless Islamic artifacts, including one of the earliest known copies of the Qura’an.
Cutting through the old city of Sana'a and five minutes from CALES is The Saila, a paved seasonal wadi (water channel). This sweeping street with its raised walkways provides a breathtaking view of the traditional mud-brick houses towering on either side. Students can come here to stroll in the cool of the evening and escape the bustle of the souqs and alleys.
